Confident Girls Round; supporting the charity that supports netball

The Suncorp Super Netball competition came together over the weekend for Confident Girls Round to raise $65,920 for the Confident Girls Foundation, Netball Australia and the league’s official charity.

More than 240 supporters donated to the Foundation over the two days, adding $15,920 to the $50,000 donation made by Suncorp, with all funds used to help vulnerable girls and their communities overcome gender, social, economic and cultural barriers.

Suncorp Super Netball’s biggest stars rallied on Saturday evening for a one-hour telethon fundraising competition that saw four teams, led by Confident Girls Foundation ambassadors Laura Scherian (Lightning), Courtney Bruce (Fever), Caitlin Thwaites (Vixens) and Sam Poolman (GIANTS), compete to raise the most money.

Sunshine Coast Lightning player and Confident Girls Foundation ambassador Laura Scherian led her telethon team to victory raising $6204.

“It was so great to have players from across the entire league come together for a common cause on Saturday evening – there is truly something special within the netball community, we may be competitors on the court but fundraising during Confident Girls Round is always something we band together to do,” she said.

“The Confident Girls Foundation continues to create opportunities for girls going through adversity and I know all the players we had involved in the telethon were proud to play a small part in helping improve a young girl’s life.”
