Abbey Gives for a Goal

Abbey and her mum, Meredith, first heard about Give for a Goal in 2018’s round one double-header.

“She knew straight away that she wanted to raise money,” says Meredith, “she wanted to make that all girls have the opportunity to be as happy as she is playing netball”.

Abbey is ten turning eleven in 2019 and she’s already been playing netball for seven years! She started as soon as she could; getting involved in NetSetGo when she was in pre-school. For Abbey, “playing netball is [her] happy place”, which is why she has continued to work and play hard for the sport she loves.

“I’ve made so many beautiful friends and we always have so much fun. The best part is having somewhere that I belong and I can be myself.” Last year Abbey played with Belmont North at Lakeside Association and together with friends, family, coaches and her school principal (!), Abbey reached her fundraising targets as a part of Give for a Goal!

But she’s not stopping there; in 2019 Abbey is continuing to shoot PB’s. She’s now playing for United Thunder at Charlestown Netball Association as well as a rep team (where she played her first carnival in April – Congratulations!). Between training for her two teams Abbey is seeing great results, “it’s so rewarding when you work hard and see yourself improving,” she says. Her positive attitude is something that she’s also bringing to Give for a Goal this year!

“We are not sure how to make this year bigger and better but with two REP carnivals in May, we are hoping to get the squad on board and make this a great year!” Says Meredith – a fantastic idea and we can’t wait to see how Abbey and her team do!
